Booking a beauty course is exciting — but it is also one of the easiest places to make a costly mistake. The lowest price online can quietly become the most expensive decision you make. Here is why.
Accreditation is not a "nice to have"
In the UK, most insurers will only cover you to perform a treatment if your training is accredited by a recognised body such as ABT, VTCT or a CPD provider. No accreditation usually means no insurance — and no insurance means you legally cannot work on paying clients. A cheap, unaccredited certificate can leave you unable to actually use it.
What accredited and insurable really gives you
- The right to obtain public liability and professional indemnity insurance for the treatment.
- Credibility with clients, landlords and salons who ask to see your certificates.
- A qualification that still counts if you move, upskill or open your own business.
Questions to ask before you book
Who accredits it? Will I be insurable afterwards? Is it hands-on with real models, or online theory only? Where, and by whom, is it taught? If a provider cannot answer these clearly, walk away.
